Background
I first discovered coding when I was 12 years old. Video tutorials of game development were recommended to me by the algorithm (thankfully) and I instantly fell in love with how I was able to make all these objects move through text alone (and assets). I became fond of how I was able to create programs through logical reasoning, creating solutions to problems I wanted to solve. It was then that I decided to pursue game development as a career.
Education
Game development was the first course I studied in college. I first took up Bachelor of Science in Interactive Entertainment Major in Game Development at De La Salle University to pursue game dev as a career. Two years down the line, I decided to focus on a more general course, a course that could be applied to a wide range of career paths along the way in order to avoid putting all my eggs in one basket. With this, I decided to shift and took up BSCS Major in Software Technology - a rather more broad course encompassing different fields in Computer Science.
A couple of months passed and I was invited to the BSMSCS course, an honors program designated for excelling students in order to bridge my previous course with the Masters of Science Major in Computer Science program. It’s a 5 year program that gives both a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree when you graduate. It was a great opportunity as I initially wanted to take up a graduate program for Computer Science once I graduated anyways, so I took the opportunity. As I write, I am now finishing my studies as I enter the last two terms of my college life.
Experiences
- Front-end development: I have experience in front-end development with the use of CSS and JS. I now plan to learn React in order to develop more responsive web applications.
- Back-end development: Back-end development is my primary role in any large project. I have experience in NodeJS/JS and have mainly used these in websites. I am fond of creating solutions to problems that clients have, and I always ensure to develop optimized, efficient, and secure programs.
- Database: MySQL and MongoDB are my two primary choices for the database of my applications. I have experience creating relation schemas, as well as developing secure ways of encrypting sensitive information to these dbs.
- Mobile development: I have experience developing apps for native Android with the Kotlin language. Currently, I am learning to develop cross-platform applications with Flutter as I am currently developing a relatively large-scale application based on Flutter.
- UI/UX design: In order to create responsive and beautifully designed applications, I am also taking up courses on UI/UX design.
- Game development: I have briefly dabbled in personal game dev projects. During a brief time while I was taking up the game dev course, I learned how to develop games in Godot and logged my dev process in Youtube. I have published one game in the Google Play Store (got unpublished due to inactivity), developed and submitted a game to two one-week long game jams, and have started (but failed to finish) a big game project, all developed in Godot.
